ObjectiveStudents will be able to analyze Macbeth’s reaction to Banquo’s ghost in order to describe how the ghost is being used to show Macbeth’s guilt.

Do-NowIndividually, read Act 3, Scene 3.  Macbeth only hired two murderers.  Who do you believe the third murderer might be?  How has Macbeth's plan gone wrong?  What might happen now?

Today: 1) Class will watch Act 3, Scenes 1-3.

2) In groups, read Act 3, Scene 4-6, pp. 107-129.

3) Class will watch Act 3, Scenes 4-6.

Exit SlipDescribe how Banquo’s ghost is used in this scene to show Macbeth’s guilt.  Why do you believe Lady Macbeth is unable to see the ghost, even though she is involved in the murder?  Explain.  In some productions of the play, the ghost is not visible to the audience and Macbeth is seen talking to nothing.  Which do you believe is more effective: having a character play Banquo’s ghost or having Macbeth talk to thin air?  Explain.

HomeworkMacbeth’s guilty conscience causes him to see Banquo’s ghost, whereas Lady Macbeth cannot see the ghost.  Re-write the dinner party scene so that Lady Macbeth CAN see the ghost.  How would she react?  What might the ghost do or say to her?  Your scene should be at least TWO pages long (one page front and back) and should be written in play format.
Assignment Worth = 20 points (10 points for length, 5 points for content, 5 points for format)
