Objective: SWBAT evaluate their classmates' responses to the "Fences" Anticipation Guide. SWBAT describe their first impressions of the play's three main characters: Troy, Bono, and Rose.
Do-Now: Turn to the fourth unnumbered page in "Fences" and read the quote. What do you believe the author means when he says you can't put the sins of the father on the child? Do you agree with him? Why or why not? Explain.
Today: 1) Complete and discuss "Fences" Anticipation Guide.
2) Begin reading Act 1, Scene 1 of "Fences," filling out the First Impressions graphic organizer for each of the main characters.
Exit Slip: What are your initial reactions to Troy's treatment of Rose? What does his treatment of her say about him as a person? Why do you believe Rose tolerates this behavior? Explain.
Homework: Choose one of the statements from the Anticipation Guide which you felt most strongly about and provide a further explanation of why you agree/disagree with it. Your explanation should be a MINIMUM of TEN sentences and should include examples.
