Objective: SWBAT evaluate
the author’s use of fences as a theme in the play. SWBAT analyze the change is relationships
between Troy and the other characters.
Do-Now: What do we build fences around? What is the purpose of these fences? What fences have been built/referenced in the play so far? Explain.
Today: 1) T-Chart: Fences - What is the difference between tangible and intangible fences?
2) Class will read Act 2, Scene 4. How has Troy's relationship changed between Lyons, Rose, Bono, and Cory? Use your graphic organizer to record these changes.
Exit Slip: Describe
the final fence Troy builds at the end of Act 2, Scene 4. What is the purpose of this fence? Has Troy built similar fences throughout the
play? Explain.
Homework: Compose
a soliloquy or poem about the fences (both tangible and intangible) you have built in
your own life. Where/when have you built these fences? Why did you build these fences? What were you trying to keep in/out? This piece will be worth 20 points and should be a minimum of 10 full sentences long. Poems do not have to rhyme and soliloquies can be written in one big paragraph. 20 points = 10 points for length, 5 points for references to fences, 5 points for self-analysis.
