Objective: SWBAT: Examine the theme of racial bias in the film “42” and compare it to Troy’s struggle with racial bias in “Fences.”  SWBAT complete FIVE discussion questions for "42."

Do-Now: Recall Troy’s struggle with racial bias during the play.  Where did he experience this bias?  How did it affect him?

Today: 1) Comparing "Fences" and "42"

2) Discussion Questions for "42"

3) Begin watching "42"

4) Begin filling out comparison chart for "Fences" and "42."  Begin completing discussion questions.

Exit Slip: Pretend that Troy from "Fences" became the first African-American major league baseball player.  How would he have responded to the racism Jackie Robinson faced?  Give specific examples of racism from the movie, "42," and explain how Troy may have acted had he been in Jackie Robinson's place.  Provide reasons for why Troy would have acted this way.
