ObjectiveStudents will be able to evaluate a deleted scene from a play in order to determine why the scene may have been removed when the play was produced.

Do-NowDo you believe Mama made the right choice in spending the insurance money on a house?  Why or why not?  What do you believe motivated Mama to do this?  If you were in Mama’s place, would you have made the same decision?  Explain why or why not.

2) Go over Practice Quiz for Act 1

3) Class will read Act 2, Scene 2 pp. 96-104

4) In groups, read Act 2, Scene 2 pp. 104-109 (end of scene)

Exit SlipWhat do you believe was the purpose of the scene with Ms. Johnson?  If you were the director, would you have left the scene in or taken it out?  Explain why.

Homework: Deleted Scene
Assignment: Compose a deleted scene for “A Raisin in the Sun.”  Your scene can take place any time in the play and should be able to fit between two existing scenes.  Since this scene is deleted, it should not contain any important information, but should rather give the reader more insight into the characters or explain something that was not explained in the play.  Your scene should be a minimum of four pages long (two pages front and back) and should be written in play format.  You may include characters from the play as well as characters you create.
