Objective: Students will be able to analyze Ruth and Walter’s reactions to Mama’s decision in Act 2, Scene 1 in order to make inferences and predictions about each character.

Do-Now: 

Why do you believe Ruth decided to get an abortion?  What does this show you about her?  Do you believe she will actually go through with it?  Why or why not?  Explain.

Today: 1) Review Exit Slips from Friday

2) Class will read Act 2, Scene 11 pp. 76-86

3) In groups, read Act 2, Scene 1 pp. 86-95

4) Class will watch Act 2, Scene 1

Exit Slip: How does Walter react to Mama’s decision to spend the insurance money to buy a house?  What can you infer about his character based on his reaction?  What may he do now as a result of this decision?  How does Ruth react to Mama’s decision?  What can you infer about her character?  What may she do now as a result of this decision?
