Friday, November 22

Objective: Students will be able to identify the main conflict in the play and make inferences about the play's main characters in order to make predictions about what each character may do to resolve or worsen the conflict.

Do-Now: FREE WRITE (Write 5-7 sentences about anything you want)

Today: 1) Review Exit Slips from Thursday

2) Review making inferences

3) Class will continue to read Act 1, Scene 1

4) In groups, finish reading Act 1, Scene 1

Exit Slip: What appears to be the main conflict in the play?  Based on your inferences, what can you predict each of the play's main characters may do to either resolve or worsen the conflict?  Characters: Walter, Ruth, Beneatha, Mama

Homework: Re-tell Act 1, Scene 1 using tweets.  You should create a Twitter user name for each character (Walter, Ruth, Beneatha, Mama, Travis) and each character should have a total of THREE tweets which recap the major events in Act 1, Scene 1.  The tweets should be written out similar to play format using the character's Twitter name.  Remember, tweets are usually very short, so your tweets should be no longer than a sentence or two. You may include abbreviations in place of full words as you would for a real Twitter posts.

Examples:

WalterJr34: Got big plans for my liquor store.     Waiting on Mama's check tomorrow.

DrBennie20: Can’t believe Mama slapped me.  She still thinks I’m a child.
