ObjectiveStudents will be able to evaluate a film version of “The Piano Lesson” in order to determine if it is successful in conveying the same themes as the written version.  Students will be able to correctly answer eight or more questions on a practice quiz for Act 2 of “The Piano Lesson” in order to prepare for their test on the play.

Do-Now: What are your reactions to the end of the play?  Why do you believe Boy Willie decided to let Berniece keep the piano in the end?  What lesson did Boy Willie and Berniece learn in the end?

Today: 1) Go over Exit Slips from Friday

2) Watch the ending of "The Piano Lesson" and an interview with August Wilson

3) Complete a practice quiz for Act 2 of "The Piano Lesson"

Exit Slip: Describe one difference you noticed between the film version of "The Piano Lesson" and the play.  What do you believe August Wilson's reason was for making this change between the play and the film?  Do you believe the film was effective in conveying the same message as the play?  Explain why or why not.

Homework: Test on "The Piano Lesson" on WEDNESDAY!!!
