Objective: Students will be able to correctly answer eight or more questions on a practice quiz for Act 2 of "The Piano Lesson" in order to prepare for their test. Students will be able to complete extra credit and make-up work in order to raise their first semester grades.
Do-Now: What do you believe may have happened to the characters from "The Piano Lesson" after the end of the play? Choose THREE characters and make predictions. Characters: Boy Willie, Berniece, Wining Boy, Lymon, Doaker, Maretha, Avery, Grace
Today: 1) Review Exit Slips from Monday
2) Go over Practice Quiz for Act 2 of "The Piano Lesson"
3) Extra Credit: Write a scene (minimum of two pages) in which a
character (or characters) from “The Piano Lesson” meets a character (or
characters) from “Fences.” Both families
live in Pittsburgh, therefore, your setting should be somewhere in Pittsburgh
and your time period should be in the 1940s or 1950s. How would these characters meet? What might they discuss with one
another? Think about what they have in
common in terms of their personalities, families, and conflicts. This scene should be written in play format
and should only include characters from either of the two plays (you cannot
create your own characters.) Worth = 20 points. Due = At the end of class TODAY!!!
Homework: Test on "The Piano Lesson" TOMORROW!!! All make-up work due by TOMORROW!!!
