ObjectiveSWBAT: Analyze Shakespeare’s use of soliloquy and monologue in Act 1, Scene 3.

Do-Now: FREE WRITE (Write 5-7 sentences about anything you want)

Today: 1) Exit Slips: The "Smiley Face System"

SUPERLATIVE EXAMPLE

In Act 1, Scene 1, Iago manipulates Roderigo by telling Roderigo he is not truly Othello’s friend and is only working for Othello in order to use Othello.  Therefore, Roderigo can trust that Iago is on Roderigo’s side, not Othello’s.  Iago manipulates Brabantio by making racist remarks toward Othello and scaring Brabantio into believing Othello has run off with Desdemona.  Iago is manipulating these two characters in order to use them to ultimately get revenge on Othello.  Iago’s manipulation is effective because it causes both Brabanito and Roderigo to take off in the middle of the night to search for Othello.
