ObjectiveEvaluate the effectiveness of Shakespeare’s use of humor as a dramatic relief.  SWBAT evaluate the effectiveness of Iago’s manipulation of Othello.  SWBAT analyze the use of Desdemona’s handkerchief as a symbol.

Do-Now: Think of a serious movie you've seen which had a funny scene in it.  Describe the scene.  What do you believe was the purpose of having a humorous scene in a serious movie?  What effect did this scene have on you as a viewer?

Today: 1) Go over Mega Exit Slip from yesterday.

2) Class will read Act 3, Scene 1.  What is the purpose of this scene?  Read Act 3, Scene 1 HERE.

3) Class will begin reading Act 3, Scene 3 and begin filling out Iago's "Evidence" Against Desdemona.  Read Act 3, Scene 3 HERE.

Exit Slip: Describe how Iago manipulates Othello in this scene by giving at least two examples and explaining how these examples represent manipulation.  Evaluate the effectiveness of Iago's manipulation by describing the effects this manipulation has on Othello (How does Othello react?  What does he say?  What does he do?) Explain how Othello's soliloquy on pg. 151 proves that Iago's manipulation is working.

Homework: Quiz TOMORROW on Acts 1 and 2 of Othello and the Elements of a Shakespearean Tragedy.
