Objective: SWBAT evaluate the effectiveness of the resolution and denouement of “Othello” to determine whether it creates catharsis.

Do-Now: How do you predict “Othello” will end?  Will Othello go through with his plan to kill Desdemona?  Will Iago get caught in his treachery?

Today: 1) Review exit slips from Friday and Monday.

2) Review resolution, denouement, and catharsis.  How are the resolution and denouement used to create catharsis?

3) Finish reading Act 5, Scene 1.  Read Act 5, Scene 2.  To read Act 5, Scene 2 online click HERE.

4) Watch the ending of "Othello."

Exit Slip: Describe the events in the resolution and denouement of "Othello."  Do you believe the resolution and denouement are effective in creating catharsis for the audience?  Explain why or why not, giving examples from the play's ending.
