ObjectiveSWBAT describe how Iago uses Cassio to manipulate Othello and evaluate the effectiveness of Iago’s use of manipulation on Othello in Act 3, Scene 4.  SWBAT evaluate the effectiveness of Shakespeare’s use of dramatic irony in Act 3, Scene 4.

Do-Now: What do you believe to be the strongest piece of evidence Iago presented to Othello so far?  Why?  What else might Iago have to say/do to convince Othello that Desdemona is cheating on him with Cassio?  Explain.

Today: 1) (Pd. 1/2 ONLY) Review Exit Slips.  Introduce "Othello" Project.  Finish "Evidence" Chart.


2) Review "Evidence" Iago has given against Desdemona and Cassio. 

3) Introduce "Dramatic Irony": When the reader/audience is aware of something one or more characters in the story are unaware of. 

Introduce "Pun": A play on words.

4) Class will read Act 3, Scene 4.  Read Act 3, Scene 4 HERE.

5) Class will watch Act 3, Scene 4.

Exit Slip: How does Shakespeare use dramatic irony in this scene?  What effect does this irony have on you as a reader?  Describe the effect this irony has on Othello.

Homework: "Othello" Project Due Monday, October 28.
